Heidi - A much loved NCAR foster dog
When I first saw Heidi on the NCAR website, I fell in love with her and just knew that i had to visit her. On meeting her for the first time she could barely walk because she was very overweight and she was in a sorry state with a bald tail and nose. We decided to foster her in order to help her lose some weight and to hopefully get her fur back to normal by giving her the love she so obviously needed. After being with us for just a few days we realised that she was a part of our family and that although she was fostered, she’d found her forever home.
She soon became my best friend. If I was upset I’d give her a hug and cry into her fur and she’d give me a big kiss. It was as if she knew that was just what I needed.
Sadly Heidi passed away on 9th October 2010 after being rushed to the vets with pancreatitis. She’d been with us for just 3 ½ months. The family was devastated. The only thing that we can console ourselves with is the knowledge that in the short time we had her she loved life to the full.
The photo above is her at our friends BBQ 4 days after bringing her home. We took her to visit friends and family and would go to Loggerheads Country Park, the beach, Delamere Forest or just throw a ball on the field opposite our home. By the time she passed away she had lost 8kg in weight and rather that only being able to plod along she would bound after a ball with our other two dogs. Even her fur had started to grow back. Her tail had a 3 inch long section of new hair and as you can see from the photo below, taken just a few days before her death, her nose was looking much better too. We were very proud of her and the progress she had made and the way she brought us all together. We miss her dearly but we have some wonderful memories of her and photos and videos that we will look at for years to come. She may be gone, but she’ll never be forgotten. We love you Heidi.
Thank you for being a part of our lives. Love forever, mummy x x x x x

Heidi I will love you forever. You were always good to me and very and very kind. You made the family proud and I’m sure you made the dog’s home proud too. If we were sad you would always cheer us up so thank you for that. A little poem just for you:
Even though you’re up above, I still give you lots of love.
Love your brother Morgan (age 8)
