The Cold Weather Appeal

The cold weather has really affected our country over the past few weeks, so it important to keep our animals warm, with warm blankets and extra heating. Due to cold weather we are finding it very difficult to wash and dry the animals bedding, so we are in desperate need of blankets, duvets, cushions and fleeces. If you can donate any of these we would be so grateful, as our main aim is to keep our animals warm and cosy in these freezing temperatures.
Donations can be dropped off at our rescue centre in Trelogan or at any of our Charity shops - Click here to find addresses, or call us on 01745 560546.
Thank you for your support!

Fireworks and pets

It's that time of year again, when fireworks will be going off around your homes, so please think about your pets, as a fireworks can be very scary for our 4 legged friends.
Here are 10 basic facts to keep your pets safe:

  1. Prepare a "den" for your pet, so that they have somewhere to hide during the fireworks. encourage them to use it by hiding healthy food, treats and toys there. if your pet hides in a corner or under a bed, leave them alone and do not try to coax them out. this "bolthole2 is where they will feel most secure and must be accessible at all times.
  2. On the evenings you expect fireworks, ensure your pet is safely inside and secure doors and windows.
  3. Make sure your pet is microchipped. if they do escape, frightened, confused animals can easily get lost.
  4. Ensure your dog is taken out for a walk early in the evening before fireworks start.
  5. Draw curtains to reduce the noise from outside and play music or have the tv on to help mask the sound of the fireworks.
  6. Ignore any fearful behaviour and do not try to comfort your pet. The animal will pick up on your anxiety and this may make the problem worse.
  7. Don't punish your pet. This only confirms that there is something to be afreaid of.
  8. Try not to go out while the fireworks are going off. Seeing you acting normally will help your pet feel more settled.
  9. There are various products available that might help calm and relieve the stress for animals. dap collars & Feliway are availble from NCAR.
  10. Before, during or even after the firework season you should contact NCAR or your vet to ask about treatments for your pet's fear of fireworks, we may be able to help you.

Cattery Refurb Appeal

We have recently lauched our Cattery Refurb Appeal, our catteries are starting to look a bit tired and could do with a new facelift, so we have started our Cattery refurb appeal to help our rescue cats have a new environment to stay in whilst in our care.
The main area we would like to update is our main cattery this has been used since the rescue began 30 years ago, each pen has an excersie area outside and large pen for the living area. We would like to change the original cat flaps to safer and easier to use ones, redecorate and replace some doors and do a general refurb of the cattery. The other two catteries have solid  plastic pods which are used to isolate the new arrivals or stray cats that have only just had their vaccinations and the other cattery is for our kittens and pregnant cats.
Again these have been used for many years, some of the pods and doors need replacing purly down to wear & tear over the years.
if you can support this appeal in anyway we would be ever so greatful for your help with this appeal.
Or if you can donate any items such as paint, cat flaps or even toys or food for the cats anything will be gratefully appreciated.
Please contact Nicky, Anne or Amy on 01745 560546 if you can support our appeal.

Cat food donations

We are in desperate need for cat food (tins & pouches) donations, people are always bringing very kind donations of dog food but recently not as much cat or kitten food. Obviously we are always needing this food for dogs and cats, especially when we have so many animals at the rescue at present. If you have any at home that you are not using or even buy a pack your next out shopping, all your donations will me much appreciated.
Thank you for your kind support.
